SEQUIM — This Tuesday’s “Music Live with Lunch” concert brings together a hot meal with some Mendelssohn, Brahms and British television.
In a 30-minute public performance at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., clarinetist Lylburn Layer and pianist Helen Lauritzen will offer the suite from “The Victorian Kitchen Garden,” a BBC series whose music won the 1991 Ivor Novello award for best TV theme.
Five parts from the suite composed by Paul Reade — the prelude, “Spring,” “Mists,” “Exotica” and “Summer” — will unfold starting at noon.
Local musicians donate their time, since the events are fundraisers for nonprofits such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula.
Layer and Lauritzen also will perform the Allegro amabile from Brahms’ Second Sonata for Clarinet and Piano.
Clarinetist George Rodes will join in on the andante and presto of Mendelssohn’s concert piece for two clarinets and piano.
Music lovers may know Rodes and Layer for their work with the Port Angeles Symphony and Lauritzen for her performances with local singers and instrumentalists. Lauritzen also is a founding member of the Seattle Peace Chorus.
To make “Music Live with Lunch” reservations, phone the St. Luke’s office at 360-683-4862 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Information about the series, at St. Luke’s the third Tuesday of the month September through May, is available by phoning Carolyn Braun at 360-452-0495.
